Most campaigns that struggle with print marketing don't fail because of bad design or wrong products — they fail because they ran out of time. Here's how to plan your print timeline so you're never scrambling the week before election day.
The most common campaign print mistake is ordering too late. Put your election date on a calendar and work backwards from there. Direct mail needs to land in homes 5 – 7 days before election day — which means it needs to be printed and at the post office at least 10 – 14 days out. Yard signs need to be up at least 3 – 4 weeks before the election to have any impact on name recognition. Door hangers for canvassing need to be in your volunteers' hands before your final push weekend. Map all of this out at the start of your campaign — not the month before the election.
Yard signs don't persuade voters — they make your name familiar. Familiarity is what gets undecided voters to check your name on a ballot they're filling out quickly. The earlier your signs are up, the more impressions they accumulate before election day. Order your first batch of signs as early as your local rules allow and focus on high-traffic intersections and supportive households in your district. Order more than you think you need — you will run out, and reordering takes time.
No campaign has enough volunteers to knock every door in a district. Direct mail fills the gap. Postcards and EDDM mailers reach households your canvassers never get to — apartments with locked lobbies, neighborhoods outside your volunteer radius, busy households that are never home when your team comes through. A well-timed mail piece arriving a few days before election day is often the last impression a voter has of your campaign before they go to the polls.
Every state, county, and municipality has its own rules about campaign materials — required disclaimers, sign size limits, where signs can be placed, and what language must appear on printed pieces. These rules vary widely and change from election to election. Before you finalize your design and approve your proof, make sure your wording and layout comply with the rules for your specific race. We print to your approved files — it's your responsibility to make sure the content is correct before it goes to press.

Campaign Printing FAQ
What is the fastest turnaround you offer for campaign materials?
Most orders ship in 1 – 2 business days after your files are approved. Submit print-ready files before 9pm EST and production begins the next business day. We recommend ordering at least 1 – 2 weeks before your in-hand deadline to allow for shipping transit time.
What yard sign sizes do you offer?
We offer custom sizes on 4mm coroplast — the most popular campaign sizes are 18X24 and 24X18. H-stakes are available as an add-on. Full color printing on both sides or front only. Ships in 1 – 2 business days nationwide.
Can I use EDDM to target specific precincts or voter districts?
EDDM works by carrier route, not by individual voter registration. You can select carrier routes that correspond to your district and target entire neighborhoods — every door on every street. For precise voter targeting by registration, you would need a targeted mailing list, which EDDM does not require.
What file format should I submit for campaign materials?
We accept PDF, AI, PSD, and EPS files. All files should be set up at 300 DPI in CMYK color mode with 1/8" bleed on all sides. Keep important text and logos within the safe zone, at least 1/8" from the trim edge. Visit our File Setup & Artwork Guidelines page for product-specific templates.
Do you offer double-sided printing on postcards and door hangers?
Yes — 4/4 full color (front and back) is the same price as 4/0 (front only) on postcards. No upcharge for double-sided printing. Door hangers are available in 4/4 or 4/0 as well.
What is the minimum order quantity for yard signs?
There is no minimum — you can order as few as one yard sign. Order exactly what you need, test placements, and reorder quickly as your campaign grows.
Do you ship to all states?
Yes — TheFlyerLab ships via UPS and FedEx to all 50 states. We serve campaigns across the country, from local school board races to state legislative campaigns.
